From "American Beauty" a special Record Store Day 12″ vinyl EP (2014)

“Hey Blue Eyes” rounds out the EP with one of my darkest political songs. Written during the Bush years, it’s a metaphor for the house of horrors our government’s actions created in the years following the invasion of Iraq. At its center is the repressed sexuality and abuse of power that characterized Abu Ghraib prison. I feel this is a shadow we as a country have yet to emerge from.

"Hey Blue Eyes" conclude l'EP con una delle mie più cupe canzoni politiche. Scrita durante gli anni dell'era Bush è una metafora della casa degli orrori che le azioni del nostro governo hanno creato negli anni successivi all'invasione dell'Iraq. È incentrata sulla sessualità repressa e sull'abuso di potere che caratterizzavano la prigione di Abu Ghraib. Credo che sia un'ombra che - come paese - non siamo ancora riusciti a cancellare.
