Something To Believe In
[1990]
Album: Flesh & Blood
"Something to Believe In" was a power ballad, it's the 2nd single from their 1990 album "Flesh & Blood". "Something to Believe In" was also released on the Best of Ballads & Blues album in 2003, with alternate lyrics (part 2).
This song was dedicated to James Kimo Maano, a security guard and best friend of Bret Michaels who had died some time earlier.
The cover art for the single depicts a tattoo on Bret Michaels's arm of a cross with the words "Something to Believe In". Unfortunately, the tattoo artist, according to Michaels, had been drinking and spelled "believe" incorrectly putting the "e" before the "i". It was attempted to be corrected by adding a rose to the cross that covered the misspelling, but Michaels was never satisfied with the results. In the first season of the reality show Rock of Love, Michaels goes to a tattoo shop where the tattoo artist properly touches up the tattoo.

Chanson italienne – E qualcuno poi disse... – Alessio Lega – 2008 – Gianni Nebbiosi – 1972

Scabs
[1991]
Lyrics & Music by Anne Feeney
Album: Union Maid [2007]
Here's a jug band/swing ode to 'the lowest life form found in nature's lab' - strikebreakers or Scabs!
"I wrote this song for Solidarity Day '91... I was inspired by a New York Daily News striking reporter. In a curious turn of events he ended up inside the building at 3 AM during the height of the strike. He talked about what it was like to see pictures of someone else's kids on the desk he worked at for 22 years. He said it was like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" – that only pod people could come in and do what these scabs were doing".

Album: The Iron Muse - A Panorama of Industrial Folk Music
Another propaganda ballad, written by William Hornsby and published as a broadside during the 1844 strike, this time extolling the heroic and steadfast virtues of the women in the coalfield. Like many songs of the time it used an existing popular folk tune.

Stella Clandestina

(Continues)

Ballad Of The Triangle Fire
[1968]
(Continues)

All Around The Jail House
[1929]
Tune: “All Around the Water Tank, Waiting for a Train.”

[1929]
Written by Ella Mae Wiggins.
Tune: “Two little children, A Boy and A Girl”, sat by the Open Church Door.
Gastonia, Nord Carolina, maggio 1929

Through the barricades
Canzone ispirata dal conflitto nell'Ulster.
Da brividi.
Through the barricades
"We had a guy called 'Kidso' (Thomas Reilly), who worked for us on merchandise during the True tour. He went back to Belfast after the tour and was killed. Kidso's brother, Jim, who played drums for Stiff Little Fingers, subsequently took me along to see his grave and the song was inspired by walking down the Falls Road. I got to experience some of the emotion of that first-hand and it just stuck with me. I didn't expect it to come out in the shape of a Romeo and Juliet sort of song, but it did."
(Gary Kemp, in un'intervista al Belfast Telegraph)

Strofe antimilitariste
Chanson italienne – Strofe Antimilitariste – Franco Nebbia (1927-1984)

My girlfriend said to me, « You know, that's not a very commercial title for an album » and I said, « It's not about the money, not that anyone seems to want to give me any. Somebody has to say something EVEN IF- very few people hear it... »
God save us once again

Supper's Ready
Eleonora

Dansante del Desterrado
[1976]
Letras: Jorge Enrique Adoum
Musica: Patricio Montilla
Album “Ecuador: El Grito de Libertad”, Paredon Records

Heartbeat
[2004]
Lyrics & Music by David Elon Preston
"Every word I heard the Beach Boys sing slipped away with Martin Luther King." I had the tune in my head for a long time, then after watching the movie, "Pleasantville", the seeds were planted for the first line: "I remember life in black and white.."

Surrender
[2006]
Lyrics & Music by David Elon Preston
Dedicated to the 13 coal miners who lost their lives at the Sago Mine, Tallmansville, West Virginia.
"The seed for this song came in early January in the aftermath of the Sago Coal Mine disaster in Tallmansville, West Virginia. I had read where some of the miners had written notes as they lay trapped two miles deep inside the mine. One note read, “Tell all I see them on the other side. It wasn’t bad. I just went to sleep.” A melody line began running through my head shortly after, and by mid-February I just had to try to get something down on paper. I tried to record the song with my own back up harmonies but it just didn't sound right.
I asked Anne Cozean and Marty Ross Vining from SongRamp to add their beautiful voices to the mix. They graciously agreed and I am eternally grateful.
This song is dedicated to the families of the miners that lost their lives in Tallmansville and everywhere".
