I Don't Like Mondays
Bob Geldof wrote this song when he heard about the San Diego elementary school massacre.
In January 1979, Brenda Spencer , a troubled 16-year-old who lived across the street from a schoolyard in San Diego, took the semi-automatic rifle her father had given her for Christmas and began firing. Four people died and eight children were injured. When asked why she did it, she answered "I just don't like Mondays".

The House of Orange is a Stan Rogers song about The Troubles, in particular about fundraising for the combatants in Canada. The overall sentiment of the song is "a pox on both your houses". The 'House of Orange' mentioned in the song is the royal house of William III of England, who led the Protestant side of the Williamite war in Ireland. It is on his posthumous CD From Fresh Water. This is the last song written by Stan Rogers before his death, and arguably among his most lyrically evocative

Written by Peter Hicks and Geoff Francis.
"This song was written after the Moura mining disaster in central Queensland, Australia, in 1985. The premier of the day, in his headline-grabbing visit to the site of the tragedy, made sure that there was room on his private jet for his media entourage - at the expense of not carrying vital rescue equipment. The subsequent enquiry turned out to be a pure cover up. Less than a decade later, following another similar preventable pit tragedy, Moura Mine was to be permanently closed." Peter Hicks

The first stanza is a poem written for Danish Amnesty International by Halfdan Rasmussen. The lyrics of the rest of the song are Roger's response to a newspaper article about the story of a Serbian soldier who helped an Albanian woman lying wounded in a burned-out building.
Halfdan Rasmussen (January 29, 1915 in Copenhagen – March 2, 2002) was a Danish poet. He was known for his nonsensical children's verse and his serious adult writings about social issues and human rights.
Rasmussen was a resistance fighter during the German occupation He became very well known and respected as a poet, nearly becoming a national poet of Denmark. Oltre il ponte
Version française de Marco Valdo M.I. – 2008

(Continues)

War Should End (In Abyss)
I bought the song called, "War Should End" by Jim Geezil on itunes. It's the kind of song that fits in with the cultural times of 2008. I just think that maybe the reason this independent anti- war song can't be heard on top 40 radio is because the music business is controlled by corporate bullies. This brilliant song will pass us by because marketing has a bigger role to play. Could you imagine if we never got to hear Buffalo Springfield's "For What it's Worth"?
Great songwriters like Jim Geezil can't find their way past the corporate entertainment gridlock. Too bad for him and too bad for us-

Working Class Hero
Piccola riflessione sul potere
Dimmi pure che il potere io l'ho scagliato dalle mani, cantava Fabrizio de André. Sicuramente.
(Continues)

From Ozark Folksongs
Collected by Mr. Tandy Collins, 1927
Randolph/Vance, Ozark Folksongs. Volume IV, Religious Songs and Others, p148/#696A [1927/07/26]
Raccolta da Mr. Tandy Collins, 1927
First recording: G.B. Grayson - Henry Whitter, 1927
Prima incisione: G.B. Grayson - Henry Whitter, 1927
(Continues)
