They Lied
[2004]
Lyrics and music by Jay Mankita
Testo e musica di Jay Mankita
http://polsong.gcal.ac.uk/songs/mankit...
"The song is a humorous, hard-hitting indictment of the Bush administration's lies, the complicity of the media, plus a short history lesson, an introduction to my mother and a thoughtful analysis of the similarities between our president, and Captain James T. Kirk.
I wrote this song after being frustrated by my mother in July 2004. She really did say something to the effect that if corporate media really was keeping real news from being reported accurately, she would have heard about it." -Jay Mankita.

Album : Songs For Mahmud
On Thursday 20th November 2003, a quarter of a million protestors brought central London to a halt in one of the biggest workday demonstrations ever. The image of a George Bush statue being toppled in Trafalgar Square was flashed round the world by the film crews and photographers and became a universal symbol of opposition to the US president’s visit. -David Rovics.
* Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London was one of the speakers at the demonstration. He was quoted as saying, "Let everyone recognise what has happened here today, that Britain does not support this war for oil. The British people will not tolerate being used to prop up the most corrupt and racist American administration in over 80 years."

Lyrics and music by Jack Chernos
http://polsong.gcal.ac.uk/songs/cherno...
"This is a song of peace and reconciliation. This is not a song about which party is the oppressor or the oppressed, who is more virtuous, or who has been more wronged - but that does not imply that gross imbalances and injustices do not exist, for they most certainly do (and so the forms and extents of "walking out" must also differ significantly). Jerusalem is not simply a place. It is also a metaphor for histories, cultures, values and ideals. May it soon become the international city of peace its name portends." -Jack Chernos

"Shortly before the re-escalation of the Gulf conflict in 2002, a rumour started about the return of conscription in Britain. The melody is, in places, quite agitated and desperate." -Paul Spencer.

Weapons For El Salvador (War Is Over)
