Figli dell'officina
December 15, 2008
“Figli dell'Officina” (Sons of the Workshop) is the traditional hymn of the Italian anarchists. The original lyrics were composed 1921 by two anarchists from Carrara, Giuseppe Raffaelli and Giuseppe Del Freo, while preparing to fight with the “People's Defenders” (Arditi del Popolo) against the Fascist armed bands. The lyrics were set to the tune of a folksong. The hymn was also adopted by communist Partisans in Northern Italy throughout the Resistance years. In 1999, the hymn has been performed (with slight modifications) by the Italian combat band Modena City Ramblers in their album “Fuori Campo”, but it belongs to the repertory of every combat folksinger and group in Italy (Giovanna Marini and Gruppo Popolare di Brancaccio, Banda Bassotti, Assalti Frontali). Figli dell'Officina was sung by Tuscan anarchists at Franco Serantini's burial (Pisa 1972). On judge's reading... (continua)
