Purtroppo mi duole annoverare tra i già numerosi casi di demenza senile quella di un musicista che ho sempre stimato, cioè James Hetfield.
L'uomo che ha scritto i versi qui sopra, qualche anno dopo (settembre 2008) ha dichiarato quanto segue:
Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently told German-language TV network 3sat that part of him was proud the U.S. military chose the band’s music to torture prisoners at U.S. detention centers in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay. “It’s strong; it’s music that’s powerful,” Hetfield says. “It represents something that they don’t like—maybe freedom, aggression… I don’t know… Freedom of speech. And then part of me is kind of bummed about it that people worry about us being attached to some political statement because of that. We’ve got nothing to do with this and we’re trying to be as apolitical as possible, ’cause I think politics and music, at least for us, don’t mix.”

Che il compianto Chris Cornell fosse un artista intelligente, versatile e anche spiritoso già lo sapevo. Ne ho trovato conferma quando mi è capitato di ascoltare questa incredibile versione di One dei Metallica cantata sulla melodia dell'omonima One degli U2. E tutto partendo su una battuta su quale fosse la canzone intitolata One più ricercata su google....

Per metà ballata, per metà esplosione di pura energia Thrash metal. Parla della disperazione di un uomo che,dopo aver perso braccia e gambe in guerra, è collegato a dei macchinari per vivere e non può nè parlare nè muoversi (trapped in myself, body my holding cell). Questa storia è tratta da un film del 1971 intitolato "Johnny Got His Gun" ("E Johnny prese il fucile"), tratto dall'omonimo romanzo antimilitarista, ispirato ad un fatto realmente accaduto, scritto nel 1938 da Dalton Trumbo, scrittore antifascista e antimilitarista americano.; è stata la canzone che ha fatto scoprire i Metallica al grando pubblico.
