Commento di digitalblade su Songmeanings:

"This song is definitely about war, specifically the Vietnam war. Even without listening to the lyrics, I can somehow feel that it is about the sad meaning of war - that's what makes this song so special to me.

"For ya'll knocked her up" means it was everyone's fault, not just specific individuals.

"I have tasted the maggots..." means the narrator has been in war and has seen it all. He is not offended that he had to kill. He knew that it was either the enemy or him - "for I knew I had to rise above it all or drown in my own shit."

Incredible song."
Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time
For y'all have knocked her up.
I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe
I was not offended
For I knew I had to rise above it all
Or drown in my own shit.

Come on Maggot Brain
Go on Maggot Brain.
