A musical setting of the Esperanto translation of the last poem "If I Must Die" by Refaat Alareer (1979-2023). The poem actually is from 2011. For information why it is called his "last poem" and for translations into other languages, see https://ifimustdie.net/ .

If I must die

Esperantlingva traduko de Krysztof Daletski
Se morti mi devas,
vi devas vivi
por rakonti pri mi.
Miajn aĵojn forvendu
tukpecon aĉetu
kaj ŝnuron por kajto
blanka kun longa vost',

Por ke infano, ie en Gaza
la ĉielon spektante, atendante la patron -
kiu foriris en fajro subita
sen adiaŭo
nek al sia karno
eĉ ne al si mem -
vidas la kajton, kiun vi faris, supre flugantan,
ĝin unumomente opinias anĝelo
kiu amon reportas.

Se morti mi devas
esperigu ĉi tio
kaj iĝu fabel'.

original English text by Refaat Alareer

If I must die,
you must live
to tell my story
to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth
and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail)

so that a child, somewhere in Gaza
while looking heaven in the eye
awaiting his dad who left in a blaze–
and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh
not even to himself–
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above
and thinks for a moment an angel is there
bringing back love

If I must die
let it bring hope
let it be a tale
