Another day at Homestead
A roller lost his life
I wept for his children and his wife
Frick has cut our wages
Views the union as a threat
And he’ll take all he can get
Put up a barbed wire fence
It stood 12 feet high
The boys in the union
Raised a battle cry
Pinkertons arrived by boat
As if armed for a war
While Frick remained behind closed doors
(*)What of the orphans and widows
Does Carnegie care how they feel?
As long as the mill keeps on running
As long as they keep making steel?
The National Guard was called in
Shots rang thru the air
Their Gatling guns
Filled us with despair
Lost our jobs, lost our homes
And as for Carnegie
He had no concern for me
