La traccia che dà il titolo al disco pubblicato nel 1972

Un pezzo incredibile di una band guidata dal musicista polistrumentista afromericano Jimmy Castor, che su queste pagine è stato riscoperto dal nostro Webmastro Lorenzo Masetti con l'inserimento, solo pochi giorni fa, di When?. E solo qualche ora dopo il sottoscritto, contribuendo il brano République tratto dall'album "11.08.73" dei francesi La Canaille, riscopre questa "E' solo l'inizio" addirittura come brano seminale dell'Hip Hop, il pezzo che ne decretò la nascita quando l'allora giovanissimo Clive Campbell, in arte Kool Herc, DJ del West Bronx, lo cominciò a mixare alla festa di compleanno della sorella, l'11 agosto del 1973.

L’11 agosto 1973, al 1520 di Sedwick Avenue, nel West Bronx, DJ Kool Herc cominciò a mettere dischi a una festa organizzata dalla sorella maggiore. Aveva diciotto anni ed era già un colosso. Il DJ il cui pseudonimo era tratto dalla marca di sigarette Kool e da Hercules, grazie alla sua mole, cominciò col reggae e notò che di quei circa 200 invitati non ballava proprio nessuno. Pare che, non appena scelse di suonare “It’s Just Begun”, pezzo dal titolo profetico del Jimmy Castor Bunch, il party decollò. Da quella sera, per circa cinque anni, una nuova forma di controcultura si affermò a New York, prima di decollare per sempre verso il mainstream e diventare un genere musicale a pieno titolo."
