Trovo la poesia – ma forse solo in lettura musicale - nel IX° volume nella poderosa raccolta di poesia e musica folk inglese intitolata “Poetry and Song” (14 LP), pubblicata nel 1967.
Il generale descritto da Sassoon come capo degli incompetenti era Sir Reginald John Pinney, un general maggiore che sul fronte francese in Arras, nella primavera del 1917, mandò inutilmente al macello i suoi uomini e poi con freddo cinismo si giustificò dichiarando che i fallimentari attacchi erano solo un diversivo per favorire il successo nella battaglia di Messines…
