It's in our nature to deceive
It's in our nature to destroy
It's in our nature to move on and on
Until everything is gone
It's in our nature to survive
It's in our nature to revive
It's in our nature if we could
See what's right and what is good
Butterfly, butterfly
You hold her in your hand til she says goodbye
She's the rain on your tongue
And the tear in your eye
She blesses the ground
And she touches the sky
Butterfly butterfly
It's in our nature to resent
It's in our nature to divide
It's in our nature to want more and more and more
Not knowing what we want it for
It's in our nature to be true
It's in our nature to rejoice
It's in our nature to be brave (???)
Become one with what we save
Butterfly, butterfly
You hold her in your hand til she says goodbye
She's the rain on your tongue
And the tear in your eye
She blesses the ground
And she touches the sky
Butterfly butterfly
Her silent prayer it echoes out
Above her soul, upon a cloud
No matter what, keep holding on
The work of an angel is never done
It's never done
It's never done
It's never done
It's never done
Butterfly, butterfly
You hold her in your hand til she says goodbye
She's the rain on your tongue
And the tear in your eye
She blesses the ground
And she touches the sky
Butterfly butterfly
Butterfly, butterfly
Butterfly, butterfly
You hold her in your hand til she says goodbye

And she touches the sky

Dedicata a Julia "Butterfly" Hill

I wrote a new song recently. I wrote it... and I just kinda taught it to the guys... today... at soundcheck... they really appreciate that. Put them in front of all these people. But no, they're really courageous and cool and uh, why not, right? But the inspiration for this song was... I've been really inspired by this girl, I don't know if you've ever heard of her, her name is Julia "Butterfly" Hill, and her nickname is Butterfly. And in the late '90s she proteced a redwood tree up in San Francisco, a thousand year old tree that a lumber company was trying to cut them all down. And she did what they call a tree sit. She got up in there and she lived there for two years -- through El Nino, through horrible storms, through blizzards, she built this wooden-canopy-treehouse-kinda-thing up there, and people would try and send her up necessities -- food, toilet paper and everything, and it was crazy. You can kinda start the thing... So if you can try and imagine us in the middle of the Redwood forest and these amazing trees that have been around forever and ever and ever, and the lumber company would actually have helicopters fly through, trying to blow her out of there. Through her incredible determination and courage she managed to stay up there until they signed a deal to protect all of the trees in this park. So I was just taken by her, obviously, and just about the world sort of that we're living in today, we're trying so hard not to combat our selfishness and our greedy ways... so easily we can suck the life out of our beautiful Earth.
