Lula Wiles is a band consisting of Eleanor Buckland, Mali Obomsawin, and Isa Burke. In Paste Magazine’s words, they’re “provocateurs of the best kind, rabble-rousers with the purest intentions.” In the band’s own words, they make good songs without worrying too much about what genre their music belongs to. Of the band’s sophomore album, What Will We Do, Obomsawin says, “we wanted to make an album that reflected, in a current way, what we are all staying up late thinking about and talking about over drinks at the dinner table,” says Obomsawin. “What is everyone worried about, confiding in their friends about, losing sleep about?” In November 2019 the band followed up What Will We Do with It’s Cool, a lighthearted duo of songs in which the band explores the complexities of dating in the digital age, training its incisive, trenchant wit on the new ways we experience age-old feelings of disappointment, desire, and heartache. With It’s Cool, Lula Wiles further established themselves as Americana’s wildcard, unafraid of exploring knotty topics and turning convention on its head.
