Bocephus KingJamie Perry, aka Mr. B.K., grew up in Tsawwassen and the U.S. border town of Point Roberts. During his young years, studious activity did not attract Jamie and he spent his time hanging out with friends, learning the guitar and listening to Townes Van Zandt, Taj Mahal, Nick Cave and Nina Simone, to name a few. On graduation from the basement to the Fireside Lounge at the Old Pillar's Inn in Tsawwassen, where old blues tunes followed by Skynard were screamed out, Jamie and his friends learnt to adapt to any situation. At age 19, however, dreams of his heroes led Jamie, inexorably, to Nashville. Once there, Nashville was not the experience Jamie had imagined. Sitting in a stuffy room where songwriters churned out country and blues hits far from the glamour Jamie had expected, but it was in this atmosphere that Jamie found his stage name "Bocephus King" a derogatory term for old-style country music. Disillusioned with Nashville, the restless Mr. B.K. wandered to New Orleans to Montreal to Mexico, drinking in the scenery and experiencing strange, sometimes bizarre, situations. Like the heros of his young years, Mr. B.K. was drawn to the shadier people and more questionable areas of town. These characters and experiences, combined with Point Robert's staples, old movies and a score of books are, and have been, a profound influence and deep source of inspiration for Mr. B.K. A little magic fused with real-life experience!
