The Alvistar Funk Association is a brand new group on the European Jazz-Funk-Soul scene. The band came into existence in early 2016 while recording the band’s bass player Margus Alviste’s album. The album will be released already in autumn 2016; it contains Margus’s songs from 1982 to 2014 and includes collaborations with such highly noted international jazz musicians as Ari Hoening, Rob Brown, Mark Berthoumieux, Jukka Eskola, Jukkis Uotila, as well as Estonian musicians – Rain Rämmal, Paul Daniel, Ain Agan, Ain Varts, Tõnis Leemets, Ivo Lille and others.
The band’s musical influences vary from old school funk to jazz, soul, pop and the peripheries of world music. The current live group is comprised of Inga Kaare (vocals), Jürgen Urbanik (keyboards), Aki Haarala (guitar), Toni Nordlund (drums), Siim Aimla (flute) Andre Solomko (saxophone) and Margus Alviste (bass). The band performs their original songs from the upcoming album, plus some well-known grooves with a new twist. By the way, if you fail to understand the lyrics during the concert, don’t blame the sound man – Inga just produces pure funk in the language of elves!
