These French authors wrote many a war song, including the famous "Vous n'aurez pas l'Alsace et la Lorraine" and other anti-german songs typical of the patriotic Third Republic, reminding of the war of 1870 and asking for revenge.
But surprisingly they also wrote, in the same 1880s-1890s, a pacifist song, "Le Forgeron de la Paix" ("Peace's Smith") at a time when the pacifist movement was far from widespread and strong.

Questi due autori francesi hanno composto molte canzoni di guerra compresa la famosa "Vous n'aurez pas l'Alsace et la Lorraine" e altre canzoni antitedesche tipiche del patriottismo della Terza Repubblica, che ricordavano la guerra del 1870 chiedendo vendentta.
Ma sorprendentemente scrissero anche negli anni 1880-90 una canzone pacifista, "Le Forgeon de la Paix" (Il Fabbro della Pace) in un momento in cui il movimento pacifista era tutt'altro che forte e diffuso.
